On your outline follow the Conclusion with the Bibliography. Propose draft names for your section titles now. This will help you organize and will help your current professor and your future SID instructor to evaluate your plan and assist you with your work.
Drafts may be changed later if you find it to be necessary. Write a couple of sentences of description after each section title and subtitle that describe what is to be included there. Add APA style citations with each section for some of the primary sources that will be used in that section.
These sources will be among those listed on your annotated bibliography and here you will show where they may be used. Your outline should show a development from one section to the next that is intended to provide readers with the material you want to present in an order that will lead them from your introduction onward to see the conclusion that you would like to present.
Writing with this outline and by sections will make the SID task much easier. By doing so you essentially are writing and number of related shorter papers and then are tying them together. You can write a series of associated 5-page papers that when combined easily become a page paper. Section 3: [title] [Description and citations] 3. Section 7: Conclusion [Description and citations] Bibliography [Insert page-break] Originality, Applicability, and Relevance In this section you will describe unique qualities and applicability of your proposed research project.
Expand on the ideas you will begin to explore in the unit assignment on originality, applicability and relevance. This section should be one or two pages in length. It should be composed as a narrative rather than an itemized list as outlined below. The following topics should be included in this section of the Prospectus:. Describe the ways in which your research will integrate knowledge, information and insights from varying disciplines in order to gain a holistic, nuanced and sophisticated understanding of your topic.
Make the case that your research agenda requires such an approach. Identify at least three specific disciplines relevant to your research sociology, psychology, economics, political sciences, etc.
To help you get started, choose from the following listing of the three major disciplines and their associated sub-disciplines. It is best if you can incorporate something from all three: Natural Sciences: The natural sciences are astronomy, biology, chemistry, materials science metallurgy , physics, earth science geology, geophysics, hydrology, meteorology, physical geography, and soil science , atmospheric science, and oceanography.
Social Sciences: The social sciences are anthropology, archaeology, criminology, economics, education, linguistics, law, communication studies, history, political science, sociology, human geography and psychology.
Humanities: The humanities are ancient and modern languages, literature, philosophy, religion, and visual and performing arts such as music and theater. The humanities that are also regarded as social sciences include history, anthropology, area studies, communication studies, law, economics and linguistics. Each reference source must be presented in flawless APA style and must be accompanied by a proper annotation immediately beneath it. Like all reference lists, this list must be arranged in alphabetical order.
As a minimum each annotation should include a description and an assessment of the material in the source, it should assess the credibility of the source, and it should explain how the source will be beneficial to your project. You will have at least 30 research quality reference sources for your SID paper next semester. Including them now will provide the opportunity to get them into proper APA format before you begin your future paper.
Keep in mind that this preliminary bibliography is a draft and that you later will be able to add to or delete from it as necessary. If you are not going to propose a project then do not include this section in the Prospectus — delete it entirely. All that should be in your Prospectus is what you are proposing to your future SID Instructor, who will give final approval and guidance. Include the references in APA format.
Describe your general disposition toward the SID process optimistic? Describe any creative ideas you think would add a special twist of innovation and originality to your final paper. This letter will help jump-start your instructor-student relationship, and allow your instructor to offer suggestions and support in specific areas prior to feedback on your early draft submissions.
This section should be structured as a one-page formal letter using double-spaced text. Unit 2 Overview In Week 2 you will begin to develop your Prospectus template.
We will develop it in this class and then the College of Professional and Continuing Studies will ask you for it after you register for the actual SID course next semester. It will be used to help select your SID advisor and your advisor will use it to help get you off to a good start.
